The School of Design at Carnegie Mellon University welcomes applications for tenure track and/or teaching track positions at the rank of assistant or associate professor for fall, 2015. The Umeå Institute of Design, UID, is an art based design education located at the Arts Campus, and part of the Faculty of Science and Technology, at Umeå University.

We currently have an open position for at post-doctoral fellow to join us for 2 years.
This opportunity is aimed for post-doctoral research, to be performed jointly with senior researchers and PhD students, as well as with our collaboration partners. The post-doc fellowship is for two years and comes with a stipend.

We are especially interested in design researchers with a visionary trajectory and a genuine interest in design practices. Our objective is to inquiry into the future of our discipline, and thus to develop the research formats that will enable us to address them in terms of both depth and width: depth in the sense of answering to a profound interest in critically addressing fundamental issues in design; width as a response to a heartfelt concern not only for further specialisation but also for design\'s relation to society and industry, the larger picture of design practices in education, profession and research.

As a post-doctoral fellow at Umeå Institute of Design you are expected to interact closely with our teaching and researching staff members and PhD students. We are specifically seeking persons who, through intense collaboration, can contribute to the development of our academic environment, and who have a clear vision statement concerning how a special focus on a certain research topic might contribute to the larger body of knowledge in design.

Eligible applicants should have earned a PhD in industrial design or a related field relevant for the position, preferably not more than three years ago. The successful candidate should have the capacity to work independently in research, as well as having the ability to collaborate with others. Preference will be given to applicants with a proven research record, publications and design portfolio. Applicants should be fluent in spoken and written English. To know Swedish is not a requirement.

A complete application should be written in Swedish or English and include: (i) a cover letter summarizing your qualifications, research interests and motives for applying, (ii) a Curriculum Vitae including complete lists of publications (iii) copies of your PhD thesis and a selection of up to five publications, (iv) design portfolio, (v) copies of exam certificates, and (vi) the names and contact details of 2 to 3 references.

This special issue of Visible Language journal investigates critical making at the intersection of design and the digital humanities, which is a site for expanding the role(s) of divergent scholarly and creative work.
Design and the digital humanities connect through critical making practices, centering on human experience and advancing the prevailing expectations of their respective disciplines. In keeping with the theme of merging form and content, the traditional printed journal will be expanded to include a corresponding online space for interactive and digital work.
We invite dialogues on what defines scholarly works in regard to non-traditional forms of writing and disciplinary crossovers. For this issue, we encourage exploratory, creative works that incorporate
evidence-based research through critical commentary, traditional analysis, audience responses or participant feedback.

Proposals should include a 300-word written abstract and a brief outline to show the structure of your argument. A corresponding visual abstract is strongly encouraged. For digital work, please include a URL or screenshots.

Job description
The Faculty of Industrial Design Engineering at Delft University of Technology invites applications and nominations for full Professors (m/f) in any of these areas: 1) Advanced Manufacturing, including designing in networked manufacturing systems, digitalisation of manufacturing processes (robots as ’production tools’), designing the engineering workflow (design, engineering, planning, service and maintenance integration based on ICT), and additive manufacturing (3D printing); 2) Circular Product Design, including circular design strategies, such as product life-extension, reuse, remanufacturing and recycling, and consumer attitudes and behaviour related to multiple lifecycle products; 3) Emerging Materials, including designing e.g. with smart materials that can sense and interact with the user, materials containing graphene, and with advanced bio-based plastics; 4) Internet of Things: exploring new opportunities for designing networked products, based on communication technologies and on behavioural knowledge generation technologies that are both fixed and ad hoc, and both wired and wireless. We are seeking candidates (m/f) who are used to setting up new initiatives in multi-disciplinary contexts as they are expected to open up new knowledge spaces on the intersections of emerging technologies.

Requirements
Applicants should have a proven academic track record and are expected to build a strong, externally funded research programme. A doctoral degree is required as well as experience in design or design engineering. A competitive start-up package will be available for the positions.

Die EU ruft vom 11. – 17. Oktober 2014 Kinder und Jugendliche in ganz Europa zum Programmieren. Programmcodes steuern unsere digitale Welt und damit unser tägliches Leben. Wer ihre Sprache spricht, kann unsere Zukunft aktiv, individuell und kreativ mitgestalten. Daher ist Coding so wichtig. Mädchen und Jungen sollen während der EU Code Week spielerisch an die Welt der Technik herangeführt werden und so schon früh erlernen, dass Programmieren Spaß macht.
