Applications are invited for a position within the field of Social Design at the Department of Design and Communication, University of Southern Denmark. The position is available from September 2016 or thereafter.
The Department of Design and Communication offers study programmes and comprises research within the areas of design culture, language and communication, business communication, IT communication, tourism and library science.
The position will contribute to the interdisciplinary research centre SDU Design in Kolding that brings together researchers from the Faculties of Humanities, Social Sciences, and Engineering to develop new directions in design. We build on a strong tradition of practice-based research and close collaboration with external partners. The successful applicant will bring experience from interdisciplinary collaboration with interaction designers, interaction analysts, design anthropologists, business designers or similar, and will be able to combine theoretical and practice-based design research.
Social Design is the research discipline concerned with social challenges in society and marginalised citizen groups. Social Design employs design methods to engage citizens in value creating processes that benefit both themselves and the society at large. In recent years Social Design has established itself as an independent discipline next to Social Entrepreneurship and Social Innovation. Applicants must demonstrate original and independent contributions to research in social design on an international level, and they should describe the field of research they aim to pursue.
Applicants must have a relevant master degree, a PhD relating to social design or interaction design plus additionally a minimum of 3 years relevant research experience.
Teaching responsibilities for the positions relate to the BA programme in Design Culture and Economics and the MA programmes in Web Communication, IT Product Design and Design Management. Applicants must demonstrate excellent teaching competencies and experience in supervising PhD students. Completion of a professional postgraduate teacher training is a requirement on the associate professor level.
Applicants who have demonstrated an ability to attract external research funding within the design field will be preferred.
